Garage remote or keypad stopped working
Press the wall button first. If it works, the door and the motor are fine and you can probably fix this yourself.
Try these in order
Try the wall button
If it does nothing, the trouble isn't the remote. Go to the page for a door that won't open.
Check the lock setting
A lock or vacation setting on the wall control makes the opener ignore remotes.
Change the battery
Do this in the remote, or in the keypad if that's what failed. Keypads have their own battery inside the outdoor pad.
Try a second remote or the keypad
If one works and the other doesn't, the dead one is the problem, not the opener.
Check for interference
The opener's antenna wire shouldn't be cut or pushed against metal. A new LED bulb in the opener or new electronics nearby can also block the signal.
Reprogram it
Your owner's manual has the steps. They differ between models, so don't follow a video for a different unit.
What to leave alone
- Don't take the motor housing apart or pull wires off the control board to test them.
- Before you buy a universal remote, check it works with your opener's model.
If none of that works
The receiver inside the opener may have failed. That is an opener repair, so ask the contractor whether fixing it or replacing the unit makes more sense for its age.
